Essay topic: A company in which every employee is made to feel important will run more smoothly and experience greater success than a company that values some employees above others. Discuss.
In the business world today, employee satisfaction and work culture are one of the most prominent issues that concern employers and company managers. Installing the right work ethics in the employees is important for creating a positive environment in the workplace. Many employers believe that this can be done by giving all their employees equal importance, while others feel that a better approach is to value employees who offer a greater input more than their peers. This essay is going to analyze the advantages and drawbacks of each of these approaches.
First, let us look at companies that give all their workers equal importance. When each individual in a company feels that his or her contribution to the company is appreciated, they might increase the efforts they put into their work. Valuing each worker equally will raise the working morale and erase all forms of discrimination, thus creating a healthy, pressure-free workplace. On the other hand, not all employees work equally hard, therefore this kind of working environment will not allow exceptionally hard-working or creative workers to be distinguished or rewarded, and the company might end up holding only average workers who do little more than what they are asked for.
In contrast, are companies where certain employees are favoured over others better? To answer this question, we must look at the basis on which workers are given distinction. Giving harder-working employees more importance than their peers is bound to motivate everyone to instill greater contribution to the company. Hence, the company is sure to achieve better profit. However, shifting our prespective a little, we can clearly see how this can create a high-pressure working environment, and aside from all the health risks that this will impose on the workers, it might also chase away prospective employees who fear such a competitive atmosphere. Also, having corrupt administratives can distort the basis on which employees are distinguished, giving way to bigotry and unjust favorisim.
In conclusion, creating the right atmosphere in the workplace is surely not an easy task for employers, but is nonetheless important to ensure employee satisfaction. Although it is vital to make everyone in the company feel like key contributors to its success, it is not wrong to reward those who offer superior efforts to encourage them and better motivate their coworkers.
